Sign the Petition: OPEIU Local 40 Nurses to McLaren Macomb CEO Tom Brisse: Safety, Security, and Respect, NOW!

  • 10 April 2020
Like all healthcare professionals across the world, McLaren Macomb Registered Nurses and Front-Line Workers are responding to the Covid-19 crisis. We are dedicated to our work of keeping our communities healthy and safe. To do that effectively, we need our leaders to protect and support us.

We call on McLaren Macomb to immediately implement the following policies:

1.Provide employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including N-95 masks, gowns, surgical caps, gloves, and goggles. Provide a consistent stock of cleaning supplies so that employees can clean and disinfect their work areas.

2. Grant a 80 hour emergency PTO bank for staff to use under quarantine applying to any COVID-19 related illness. Use of PTO should not count against employees attendance record.

3. Provide hazard pay for ALL employees working in direct contact with patients and the public.

Now is the time for all of us to rise to the occasion and respond to this crisis by protecting and supporting each other. It's time for McLaren Macomb management to do what's best for its Registered Nurses and front-line workers.

Labor Films: Celebrating Solidarity in Self-Isolation

As we continue to practice social distancing measures to protect ourselves and others, there has never been a better time to reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us. OPEIU has put together a short and certainly non-exhaustive list of labor films worth watching as we weather this crisis together.

Need more? The United Association for Labor Education has compiled a comprehensive list of films on labor, work and an array of societal struggles for equity and equality.

Check it out here.

Workers’ Memorial Day – April 28, 2020

  • 9 April 2020
50 YEARS AGO, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, promising every worker the right to a safe job. Unions and our allies have fought hard to make that promise a reality—winning protections that have made jobs safer and saved lives. But our work is not done. Each year, thousands of workers are killed and millions more suffer injury or illness because of their jobs.
