Today, we honor the hundreds of thousands of workers who have needlessly lost their lives through preventable workplace hazards or occupational diseases.
More than 5,000 workers died on the job in 2021, according to the AFL-CIO’s annual
Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect. Workers in the forestry, agriculture, warehouses, mining and construction industries are at especially high risk – a risk made higher by an underfunded OSHA and employer efforts to maximize profits by disregarding the safety of their employees.
