Biden’s Victory Means Workers Once Again Have a Seat at the Table

Joe Biden’s election victory is a victory for working families throughout this country, bringing with it a renewed sense of optimism that they will once again have their voices heard in the Oval Office. As we celebrate this victory today, we know there is much work to be done and look forward to working with the Biden administration to reestablish and further the interests of all working Americans.

Earlier this year, a survey of OPEIU members -- the first-ever of its kind in our union’s history -- showed a strong majority in support of making Biden the forty-sixth president of the United States. OPEIU members throughout the country worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the election to help get out the vote for Biden and his vice-presidential running mate, Kamala Harris.

With Election Results Unknown, All Votes Must be Counted

New York, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2020) – As we collectively move into a period of electoral uncertainty, OPEIU reaffirms its commitment to mobilizing its members to safeguard our democratic institutions from anti-worker attacks by President Trump and his allies.

For more than a year, Trump has been setting the stage to contest the outcome of the election. His team will do all they can in the courts and on the ground to throw out votes, attack ballot counters and intimidate those who wish to see the election decided by the voters -- not by the president.

Our union will join the effort to monitor the situation in key states, particularly those with governors with a demonstrated track record of voter suppression and strong-arming, and do all we can to ensure all votes are counted and that those votes determine the winner.
