New York, NY (June 22, 2016) – The Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO, and OPEIU Local 153 today announce their endorsement of Anna Throne-Holst for the 1st District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Suffolk County, Long Island.
“OPEIU is putting our full support behind Anna Throne-Holst because of her stance on a number of issues of importance to our members,” said OPEIU President Richard Lanigan. “She has put at the top of her agenda creating good jobs on Long Island and protecting American workers, ensuring quality education for every child, and protecting Social Security and Medicare.”
“Anna shares many of the same values as OPEIU and our members,” said Local 153 Business Manager Michael Goodwin. “She’s been a champion of working families, spending her career fighting for access to quality education for all Long Island children, and we know she’ll continue to fight for them in the U.S. House of Representatives.”
“I am proud to have the support of OPEIU in my campaign for Congress,” said Throne-Holst. “As the progressive Democrat in this race, I will always have the backs of organized labor and working families in Suffolk County. I am looking forward to working with OPEIU to beat Lee Zeldin and restore real, progressive leadership to New York's First Congressional District."
OPEIU Local 153 represents approximately 1,400 members on Long Island – with about 800 members in Suffolk County – employed at Hofstra University, LIU Post and Emblem Health, among other employers. OPEIU’s 103,000 members nationwide represent a cross-section of America’s workers, both employees and independent contractors working in administrative offices, hospitals and medical facilities, hotels, and in the fields of nursing, insurance, higher education, transportation, among other industries.
