HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM OPEIU

  • 3 September 2021
HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM OPEIU
We wish you and your loved ones a relaxing, rejuvenating and reflective Labor Day. As we look to the past to commemorate the sacrifices and struggles of those who came before us while celebrating this weekend, we must also look to the future.

Right now, historic legislation hangs in the balance in the Senate. The filibuster threatens to stifle progress on workers' rights, voting rights and civil rights despite a majority of the U.S. population supporting these reforms. Without ending the filibuster, we'll never be able to move forward on issues of vital importance to working people.

After the holiday, please consider taking action to urge your senators to abolish the filibuster so important bills like the PRO Act, voting rights legislation and an infrastructure package that puts working people first can come to the Senate floor for a fair vote.

- Team OPEIU

OPEIU Mourns the Loss of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

OPEIU Mourns the Loss of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka
OPEIU mourns with deep sadness the sudden passing this morning of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. A lifelong fighter for workers' rights, first with the United Mine Workers and later as secretary-treasurer then president of the 12.5-million-member AFL-CIO, he led a life of purpose and conviction in pursuit of dignity and respect for working people.

"OPEIU sends it deepest condolences to the family and friends of Richard Trumka," said OPEIU President and AFL-CIO Vice President Richard Lanigan. "The entire labor movement today stands together in solidarity as we reflect on his life and legacy. We are thankful for all he accomplished on behalf of working people, particularly recently as he nimbly guided the labor movement through an extremely politically divided time, all the while keeping the movement united in the fight for the future of all working people. We are committed to upholding his powerful legacy and the fight for dignity and respect for all."
