OPEIU Brings Publication Online, Filling Reporting Gap Without Filter

New York, NY — The Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) brought its longstanding publication, OPEIU Connect, to Substack today, enabling members and the public to read about OPEIU’s work in an easily accessible way. With the creation of this new platform on Substack, readers can easily view in one place stories about members, analysis of political and economic issues impacting working people, highlights from recent negotiations at local unions and updates about the benefits of OPEIU membership.

In a moment when newsrooms across the country are underfunded, consolidating and closing, and studies repeatedly show that American journalism overall has deprioritized covering labor, workers and their unions have a unique opportunity to tell their stories on their own terms. This Substack will help fill the coverage gap by delivering workers’ stories directly to readers.

“Bringing OPEIU Connect to Substack is just the natural progression of our core work that starts on the shop floor — empowering members with a voice,” said Tyler Turner, president of OPEIU. “OPEIU members will now be able to tell their own stories without the filter of outside editorialization and do so with details that rarely make it out of the union hall.”

Magazine articles will be published quarterly upon each issue’s release and are all tagged by local union, meaning searching for a specific local will bring up an archive of relevant stories. Stories are also sorted by category and topic.

Subscribe at opeiu.substack.com to receive email notifications when OPEIU Connect publishes new articles. Journalists are encouraged to reprint material from the website if they provide proper accreditation and are always welcome to follow up for further details or with questions by emailing frontdesk@opeiu.org.
