Joseph Marutiak is an International Vice President from Region VII in Lansing, Michigan. He has spent the past 25 years leading Local 459, taking it from a small Local Union to the large and thriving organization it is today. Marutiak is the Senior Service Representative of Local 459, where he supervises the staff and chief stewards and provides service to the Local Union members. From 1985-2000, he was also president, serving as the lead negotiator and chief spokesperson with 52 bargaining units, processing grievances and organizing new units.

Prior to joining OPEIU, Marutiak was a case manager at C-E-I Community Mental Health and Shiawassee Community Mental Health, both located in Michigan. Marutiak has served on the Michigan AFL-CIO Executive Council since 1998, as well as the Lansing Association for Human Rights (LAHR) since 1989. He served as Treasurer or Vice President for the Greater Lansing Labor Council from 1989 to 1999, and on the City of Lansing Fire Board from 1994 to 2002. He attended Michigan State University, where he graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology and Philosophy.
